CTE Business Education Focus Group
Southeastern
Regional  Medical Center
December 8, 2004

Objective:

The  purpose of the meeting was to establish possible  direction for the  SE Partnership considering what LEAs are already doing and what we ! have the capacity to do on a regional basis.

Partnership   Structure:

The Partnership should  have open membership    consisting of business representatives, CTE administrators, and  interested  others.  Small focus groups of business leaders and  CTE administrators  will meet on an as needed basis to respond   regional or sub-regional  challenges and/or  opportunities.

Alternatives to large  regional  meetings were discussed. These included small focus groups,   the  regional e-mail group, and possibly a newsletter..  The  importance of  "communicating" was emphasized.

The  Partnership's main focus  should  be to promote and market  Career-Technical Education within the  region.  This focus will  provides opportunity for all local educ! ational  agencies to  participate and provide potential recognition for all aspects of  CTE  (curriculum, work-based learning, student organizations,   etc.)

The need for regional marketing activities to be a   "win-win" situation for both CTE and Business was  discussed.

The above were the major directional outcomes  of the meeting.  Among  related topics that came up were  work-based learning activities including  apprenticeships, need to  update membership roster, resources, alignment with state-wide  efforts, and March College-Prep Conference and Business Symposium in
Greensboro.
